Post-Multiculturalist Approaches to Culture and Globalisation

The aim of the Indian Ocean network project is to develop collaboration between researchers in Denmark, India and South Africa – as well as Nordic and European colleagues – engaged in studies of transnationalism and cultural exchanges around the Indian Ocean. The network wants to critically examine and revise paradigms of understanding within the field and work towards new ’post-multiculturalist’ approaches. It has two focus areas that are closely related and both represent central fields of interaction – ’Cultural clashes and mediations around fundamentalisms and religious movements’ and ’The transnational history of nationalisms and the emergence of new universalisms’.

The Indian Ocean network is supported by a grant from the Danish Research Council for the Humanities.
